My review of Whalen’s is based on a visit at the end of November last year. Why am I waiting over one month to review Whalen’s? Well let me be honest with you, it’s because on my first visit, I was so full that I couldn’t even finish my meal. The serving sizes are gigantic, and I normally have an appetite that puts buffet restaurant owners out of business. I couldn’t bring myself to finish the meal, as delicious as it was. So for weeks I delayed posting the review, hoping that I could return to Whalen’s and review more dishes. Unfortunately I haven’t been back yet, and the reason is: I’m scared. I’m honestly scared I’ll go back and be unable to finish my meal again, and there’s nothing I hate more than leaving a plate of tasty food unfinished.
So for now, Whalen’s, I will do my best to increase my stomach capacity, because the next time I come back, I’m going to order Whalen’s Killer Whale Food Challenge, all 5.5 pounds of it. It’s not going to be pretty, and it might well kill me, but I will do it for the honour of all the fine readers of this blog! And now, on to the review!
Philly Steak Poutine (NT$180): This might be a big claim for any Canadians reading this, but if anything I have to say Whalen’s take on poutine is better than anything I tried in Toronto or Vancouver. Simply amazing.
Leaky Skillet (NT$310): Two perfectly poached eggs with fries, bacon, sausage, mushrooms, bell peppers and onions, plus toast, a side dish and a choice of drink. Sensational brunch eating.
Smokey’s Pulled Pork Sandwich (NT$300): Pulled pork must be one of the greatest dishes in the world, and Whalen’s executes it with perfection. I just wish I had enough room to eat it all, along with the two side poutines I ordered. I really am too greedy for my own good!
Whalen’s, I will be back!
